Surprise Snow Overnight, More Coming??

Well that was a pleasant surprise, many places in the Central Sound received anywhere between 1-3 inches of snow overnight, making for some nice morning views!! It also made for a messy morning commute and there were several crashes on I-405 near Bellevue.

Moving on, a vigorous band of moisture is slowly making it's way up the coast and into Western Washington.

Temps rest close to freezing in most of Western Wa, and upper levels remain plenty cold so all of this should fall in the form of snow. The uncertainty remains in terms of amounts and if/when/where a deformation band forms later in the evening as the low passes to the South of us.

Right now on Sat imagery, the low seems to be moving north but has picked up some eastward movement, if the low comes inland and south of Seattle, it would set up a band of snow over the Central Sound. This is the wildcard at this moment as models continue to waver on where this sets up. At this point, it looks like the Kitsap Peninsula may get the most snow out of this but the Central Sound is definitely in play. As if the forecast wasn't hard enough already, the snow cover today morning has limited the rise of temps so most areas are sitting in the low 30's, coupled with dew points at or below freezing, it wouldn't take that much precip to bring temps down to freezing. Accumulating snow is definitely a possibility for all of the Puget Sound including the Seattle Metro.

WWA's are out for most of Western Washington for up to 2 inches of snow, but my estimate would be a bit higher. 1-5 inches for most of the Central Sound as the system looks a bit more vigorous on sat and radar than what was modeled.

Looking at radar, it should begin snowing in Seattle/Central Sound by the lunch hour. The evening commute could be really messy, even if the snow isn't sticking to the roads.

Stay safe!!

Will update as things go on!!
