A Remarkably Benign Stretch of Weather Continues, Aurora Tonight??

So far, this fall in the Pacific Northwest has been benign, to say the least. I wish I could say the same for our poor friends down in the Southeast who have been hammered by back to back hurricanes. Hurricanes Helene and Milton left a devastating trail of damage in the Southeast, leading to millions of power outages and billions of dollars in damage. Getting back to the Northwest, this fall has been fairly boring weather-wise so far. We have been trending below average in terms of precipitation here in Seattle, with only two days of measurable rain so far this month. Looking ahead, Friday looks to be another partly cloudy day with highs in the upper 50's and lows in the 40's. The upcoming weekend looks very pleasant for most of the area with highs in the upper 60's and maybe even the 70's. Our next chance of rain will arrive on Monday with a frontal system. Amounts look to be don't look too impressive with most areas receiving anywhere from 1/10 of an inch to half an inch of rain.

After Monday, models are signalling a transition to a wetter pattern with Euro and GFS giving us a much needed soaking in the long range.

Meanwhile, a very strong geomagnetic storm is underway and much of the Northern US should be treated to a good light show tonight. Here in western Washington, there are some high clouds present but they shouldn't obstruct in the viewing of the northern lights tonight. Remember to head to a darker location away from light pollution for a better viewing experience. Hoping everyone is treated to a good light show!!
